Together we grow. Working together for mutual benefit is the foundation of how we believe our partnership with florist partners will be most successful. In an upcoming series of articles, FTD will sit down with various associates that work behind the scenes to ensure that the programs, services and experiences a florist has with FTD are exceptional.
To kick-off the series, we sat down with Timm McIntyre, product manager for ecommerce solutions designed for FTD Florists to learn more about him and the importance of continually learning. Timm is responsible for the performance of all FTD Florists websites and marketing solutions. His ecommerce, social media and online marketing experience gives him unique insight into what makes a florist’s website successful, how shop owners can get top listings on search engines and ways to increase online orders.
Always curious and interested in discovering new things, Timm is the epitome of a lifelong learner. As both a teacher and “student,” he continually pursues personal and professional growth. Read on to learn more about how Timm helps FTD Florists grow their local businesses.
Can you summarize your professional experience?
I have 26 years of online marketing and ecommerce experience on both the agency and client side. I’ve been at FTD for seven years as Product Manager for the ecommerce team supporting the florist network.
How can you use your expertise to help florists? What is your ultimate ecommerce goal for them?
I want to help florists run businesses that are more profitable and less stressful for them. There is great opportunity in ecommerce. But, a lot of shop owners don’t have the time or experience in this area and that’s where our team can help. We want our FTD members to be happier running their businesses.
What is your top tip for florists in the area of ecommerce?
Gosh, there are so many—much more than just one! Here are just a few: secure good quality in-bound links to your website; don’t be afraid to experiment with pricing levels; work your email marketing lists; keep your site up-to-date with what you’re doing; show off your best work; and ask for testimonials.
What are you most proud of in regards to your work at FTD?
I’m proud of the work our team has done to help small businesses succeed in the competitive ecommerce market.
What makes you tick personally and professionally?
My passion is being a lifelong learner. I’ve always been especially interested in ecommerce, film production, computers and trivia. I’m also enthusiastic about teaching and have taught college for 20 years. In addition, I instruct and train employees and florists, but I also learn so much from them! Our passionate, enthusiastic florists love what they do—it’s a definite calling. It’s fun to be around them!
What is your philosophy in work and life?
Always keep learning; never stop growing.
What are some of your interests outside of work?
My other interests include horses, reading and goofing around with my family.
What do you like most about working for FTD?
This may seem cliché, but we have a great group of people at FTD. There’s been a real transformation in our company with it becoming a very entrepreneurial and innovative environment. There is real excitement around here as we are getting back to focusing on our members’ success. If our members are successful, we are successful. I’m so glad that we’ve gotten back to that.
What drew you to the floral industry?
When I was in college, I lived down the street from a wholesale florist who would give flowers away or sell them cheaply. I saw how giving flowers to people made them smile. Everyone is always happy to get a floral delivery or visit floral shops. I like being in a position to help small floral businesses succeed and know that what we do matters.
Do you have a favorite flower?
I have fond childhood memories of green-dyed carnations on St. Patrick’s Day and they remain my favorite flower.
