FTD Celebrates “Echoes of Success” at Tournament of Roses

roseparade2017logoFTD was proud to once again be the Official Floral Partner of the Tournament of Roses in Pasadena, CA, on January 2. Our most visible contribution to the Rose Parade was the beautiful floral décor on the 11 antique cars and carriages that transported parade VIPs down the historic parade route. The theme of this year’s parade was “Echoes of Success” and the grand marshals were Olympians Janet Evans, Allyson Felix and Greg Louganis.

For the past 13 years, J. Keith White AIFD has celebrated the New Year in Pasadena, California as the FTD Education Team, Lead Designer VIP Entries. Keith and his team worked tirelessly to bedeck the 11 VIP vehicles with 10,000 fresh flowers provided by the FTD Flower Exchange. Pete Samek AIFD, FTD Quality Representative, joined Keith this year and learned the “tricks of the trade.” A team of Student Ambassadors also assisted with decorating the FTD signage for each vehicle.

The flower selection for the vehicles is based on the parade theme, the grand marshals, the vehicles themselves and the personalities of the people who would be riding in each car. Beyond selecting the perfect flowers, Keith is also tasked with ensuring that all decorative materials are secure and that the cars themselves are protected.

Keith took a break from his duties to play host to FTD’s Everyone “Likes” a Parade Sweepstakes winner, Denise Carroll of Jim Durio Florist in Opelousas, LA. Denise received a behind-the-scenes look at the design process as well as airfare, hotel accommodations, a rental car, $500 in spending money and tickets to the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl game.

Congratulations to the team on another successful (and beautiful!) year.

cagrownFTD received the distinction of being certified “California Grown” because at least 85 percent of the flowers used on the vehicles were grown in California.
